The historic 1800's day marker "Nixes Mate" is the symbol of the Friends of the Boston Harbor Islands. Nixes Mate was once an 11 acre island. It represents the vanishing heritage of the Boston Harbor Islands and the need of the Friends to help preserve and help with the conservation of the islands. Today Nixes Mate is listed as a National Register of Historic Places, thanks to the advocacy of the Friends of the Boston Harbor Islands.
