Island Bound

About The volunteer Program

The Boston Harbor Islands capture the imagination with their unique plant life and wave-swept shorelines.
As the Boston Harbor Islands National Park area draws more visitors and adds new programming , the need for volunteer help increases. The FRIENDS recruit for a wide variety of interesting volunteer opportunities supporting park agencies on the mainland and on the islands. Volunteers are needed throughout the year. The "outdoor" volunteer season runs from May through Columbus Day. Training for volunteer positions is provided free of charge. New volunteers receive a uniform shirt and badge. . Forty volunteer hours are required to receive credit for one year of service. We currently do not have provisions for "live in" positions.
The volunteer program is the vehicle by which the FBHI mission is carried out. Volunteers fulfill the FBHI mission by sharing knowledge of the islands'history and unique environment while advocating for their protection. It is driven by the dedication and support of FBHI members.
