Little Brewster Isl
Rainsford Island boat trip and exploration
Home to a 50-foot drumlin, natural coves facing south and southwest, separated by rock outcropping Pebbles and rock beach, shell deposits. In about 1636, Edward Rainsford was granted the island for farm use. In 1737, a quarantine hospital was moved to Rainsford Island from Spectacle Island and operated there until 1852. During this time, Rainsford Island was a popular summer resort.
We travel on MV Beachcat which is a beach landing vessel since the island has no dock. There is a short ladder attached to the bow. Wear waterproof shoes or bring an extra pair because your shoes may get wet. Bring a picnic; there is no food sold on the boat or the island. Park policy is no pets and no alcohol. Boat departs at 11:00 sharp returning to the dock at 3:00.
Little Brewster / Boston Light Sunset Adventure
Little Brewster Island & Boston Light mark a main shipping entrance to Boston Harbor, New England's busiest port which has been commercially active since the 17th century. Established in 1716, the original stone tower was the first lighthouse built in North America.
The British destroyed Boston Light during the Revolutionary War in 1776. It was rebuilt in 1783 and we'll celebrate it's 300 Anniversary in 2016!
Departs Rowes Wharf Water Transport, 60 Rowes Wharf Boston, MA 02110.
No refunds, trip canceled only by the captain, will run rain or shine. Bring your own refreshments; no food sold on the boat or the island.
Thompson Island Sunset Adventure
Enjoy seeing the fields, forests and salt marsh on one of the larger islands in Boston Harbor. Today it is the home of the Thompson Island Outward Bound Education Center. Although privately owned it is part of the BHI National and State Park. Pack a picnic for your evening time on this beautiful island. The image on the BPT site is from the 1852 Gleason's Pictorial of the Boston Farm and Trade School.
